340BFacts is a project of Safety Net Hospitals for Pharmaceutical Access (SNHPA), the association of hospitals and health systems that participate in the 340B drug discount program.
The 340B program plays a critical role in enabling hospitals, health centers, clinics and other health care providers that serve a disproportionate share of low-income and vulnerable patients to fulfill their vital mission of providing care to all regardless of one’s ability to pay. Participation in the 340B program is a privilege granted by Congress. Hospitals and other providers use the program to stretch their scarce resources as far as possible, enabling them to reach more eligible patients and provide more comprehensive services.
The 340B program is under attack by a well-funded alliance of highly profitable interest groups including drug manufacturers, biotechnology companies, pharmacy benefit management companies (PBMs), and private practice oncologists. While they have a right and obligation to provide input and commentary on how the 340B program is operated, they want to place unnecessary and costly restrictions on the 340B program that would have a profound impact on the tens of millions of vulnerable patients who depend on 340B hospitals and clinics for affordable or free care. They are spreading misinformation about 340B in pursuit of that objective.
We created 340BFacts to set the record straight and to tell the story of how hospitals use 340B savings to stretch their resources, serve more patients, and improve care for those most in need.
